The EU tightened sanctions on Iran

The EU tightened sanctions on Iran, also Iranian news channel are affected. Eutelsat switched off 19 channels, they can no longer be received in Europe. The Iran answered promptly and interferes with the European channels. Europe is beside himself.

Country game day was on Tuesday, World Cup qualifications for Brazil 2014 were held all over the world. The televisions were banned fans, cheering their teams. While the Germans in the game against Sweden from the 60 minute had little to laugh, it was a memorable day for the Iran. The team Melli hit groups first South Korea at home with 1:0 coach Carlos Queiroz came the victory just right, he stood for weeks after the historic defeat of the Lebanon in tart criticism. Even more, he praised the performance of his players after the final whistle. "The players earn a thick Glückwusch, every one of them has shown the power required," said the coach. Further, he thanked all the fans for their great support and asked to continue them for the match against Uzbekistan.

While in Tehran, there were people beside himself with joy, millions of Iranians in exile in Europe might not be able to watch the game. Who found only a live stream on the Internet, was lucky, the TV but remained black. The French satellite service of Eutelsat commissioned the British media company Arqiva, 19 Iranian satellite channels by the hot bird to take frequency. The recently tightened sanctions in Europe against the Iran are basic. "We ended the contract after we received the request from the European Commission," confirmed this Regional Director of Eutelsat, Karen Badalov, the Iranian news channel press TV.

EU shuts off Iranian news channel

Long time England and France followed the plan to disable Iranian channels. Watching the English-language channel press TV is viewed by critics as a mouthpiece of the Iranian Government. Wikileaks has revealed already in 2010, as the British Foreign Office announced an American diplomat "to find ways to restrict the work of press TV". So, the new sanctions came here just in time. While the British Foreign Secretary in a statement vehemently points out, the sanctions should take only the Iranian Government, of this is hard to believe in the case of Iranian news channel. First seems here to go to European interests, to turn off the news channel. Affected are mainly exiled Iranians by the decision, they can now no longer legally receive the domestic channels. Press TV looks cropped, of the press and freedom of speech of the West it says in article 19 of the Universal Declaration of human rights: everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and freedom of expression; This right includes the freedom to add opinions freely through any media and regardless of frontiers information and ideas of seeking to receive and disseminate.

While the EU was but just honored and awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. The decision to ban the Iranian news channel from Europe shows again, the receipt of the price is as questionable with what different extent the West celebrates freedom of the press and the right of freedom of expression. Was cooking again in the West the theme of freedom of expression but recently when it came to the controversial Mohamed film. While there were isolated demonstration and rioting in the Arab world, embassies were set on fire and people were killed, the West relied on freedom of expression. Critics said the Muslims would have to endure that. There must be no two opinions whether a film justifying such violence. But the shutdown of channels may fall under sanctions?

The two sides of the freedom of the press

The Iran replied promptly, feels in fact hit by Europe's decision. The reception of Deutsche Welle as the BBC are disturbed since yesterday, can just no longer be received in parts of the Arab world and the Iran. The West is now outraged, represents the Iran in the pillory. Eutelsat spokeswoman confirms that the signal overlap is intentional and time-limited. In an interview with the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, DW Director General Erik BETTERMANN said it protest against the renewed interference of Iran in the freedom of the media. Now the Deutsche Welle promptly elaborate a joint resolution with other foreign broadcast stations. The Frankfurter Allgemeine ZEITUNG said the Iran have repeatedly disrupted the signals from Western news channels in the past.

The Iran used the simple weapon: like you me so I, I can also what you can. And the West jumps up angrily, shows with a finger on the Iran and accuses him of the circumcision of the freedom of the press. It is no secret that the Iran violated the freedom of the press, arrested journalists or torture. Nevertheless, this case must be treated differently. If the EU shuts off news channels, it is sanctions, against the Iran to violation of human rights.
